Within/between subjects contrasts

Hi everyone,
When I define my cohort I have the option of distinguishing subjects based on groups. These groups can be used later for statistical analyses.
I would like to if these groups can only be used for between-subjects contrasts or if two groups can include the same subjects (two conditions, repeated measures). If not, what is the correct approach to specify within-subjects contrasts?
